Template: Tech Stack Audit

Why it Matters

Tools can get out of control. Before you know it, the tools take up more time and resources than they save you!

Keeping your tech stack organized helps you see what you can cut back on to keep your tools lean.

Gartner found that nearly one third of marketing budgets (29%) is spent on tools and technology.

Someone in-house should “own” all assets. Shouldn’t rely on external vendors. Keep control for risk mitigation.

As you scale you’ll switch assets, vendors, subscriptions etc. frequently. Documentation is essential to avoid wasting days trying to get access to something an intern set up six months ago.

What to Do

Check your tech stack every six months at a minimum and check your banking statements to make sure you’re using everything you’re paying for. Are there better tools than what you have? What about new membership levels?

Document your tech stack. Assume you are handing its management over to someone else. Include everything they would need to manage renewals.

Make sure all assets are fully owned by you not an external vendor especially advertising accounts.
